After writing my paper about the history and importance of the blog, I realized that I have unestimated the blog as a bonafide medium. "I don't read blogs; therefore, blogs aren't important," is what I was thinking. But, apparently, they are. There are people sitting at their computers all over the globe typing their thoughts, linking what they've found to be important, and commenting on each other's pages constantly.
I'm just out of the loop. I feel more like Henry David Thoreau spending years away from the rest of the world, writing down the thoughts that are break dancing across my mind.
This class is making me more aware of this medium, but I doubt I'll truly embrace it any time soon. Do any of you blog for yourselves outside of this class?
A few of my friends read my blog, and my mother asked for this url. Perhaps I just haven't found the good blogs yet. The only one I've ever read is Zach Braff's, which I read for about two weeks after seeing his film Garden State.
Well, happy blogging everyone.

Something I find interesting about rereading my blogs are all of the grammatical and typological errors I make. It is kind of like when you look at your face closely in the mirror and see all the blemishes.
In the future, I'll make much more of an effort to proofread and revise my posts.
I too notice alot of mistakes on my blog when I reread it. A blog is just like any other paper you write. I doubt someone could write a perfectly stated idea on the first draft every time. I go back and edit mine sometimes, but most people don't because by the time you get around to editting, most people who are going to read your blog already have. Hope your studying is going well.
Mike,
I share your attitude about blogs. I also am becoming more in tune with how relevant they are.
I thought I would just do what I had to do to get through the course, then apply certain things I learn to my own online courses. As a teacher, I want to be in the know. I want to be able to reach my students through a medium that is comfortable for them.
Now I find myself enjoying blog surfing. I recently added links to other blogs on mine. I am getting a kick out of reading others' musings, and am becoming more enthusiastic about sharing my own.
My mom also wanted to see my blog, and she emailed me about it the other day. Her message was very short. She said, "You can write really well".
I think this surprised her in a kind of 'no doy' way. That is, she knows that I am finishing a master's degree in a writing oriented discipline, and I teach writing to freshman (then there is that). But, she has always been primarily focused on my performance abilities. She thinks of my strong suit being this. I guess she was happily surprised to meet this other side of me. I don't know if it would've come up had it not been for this blog assignment.
Yeah, if I find a blogging community I like I'll continue to blog. But right now I'm getting minimal comments on my blog so I'm going to have to figure out how to create traffic with other blogs out there.
so i was out of town when you posted this and i missed it. these are some good thoughts.
yeah i wrote the paper about the history of blogs and thought the same way you did, "if i dont read it, it isnt important" but i was wrong.
i have 3 other blogs. not gonna lie. i write a ton unless i am completely unmotivated. the point is that i write a lot but none of it is relevant to .. the world. it is only my world i write about. but there are these people out there talking and talking and talking about what is going on in the world and i am missing it.
