Hello everyone, I just saw Pan's Labyrinth. Perhaps I misinterpreted the advertisement's for this film, but I left the theater disappointed. The previews and posters give off this foreign, horror film with special effects and bedazzlement. What I got was a two hour drudge through Spain's political history with a young girl who is becoming a princess in a fantasy underworld. Please don't get me wrong; it is a very good movie. It is well made, well written, and the special effects are quite original and engrossing, but when the end credits came up, I felt like I didn't see the film I had been promised. It is sort of like seeing the PG-rated version of Saw.
If you like Spanish (or subtitles), Spainards killing each other, and rather unique fauns and fairies, check out this movie. If you want a horrific, rated-R film, look elsewhere. Oh, and never, never take your children to see this one.

That is so disappointing when movie trailers depict the exact opposite of what the movie is about!I think the WORST misguided trailer was for a movie called The Village [M. Night Shalamalan] What a crock! And such a weird movie it was!
i too saw pan's labyrinth this weekend. yeah, so didnt know it was a foreign film. i mean, i love foreign films but i didnt realize i was in for a movie of subtitles.
i liked it. lots of unexpected violence. had to hide behind my jacket.
but on the flip side, i am more practiced in my spanish now.
Hmmm,
I knew about the subtitles and the violence. Still, I never got the, "I like this," vibe.
Hey Mike,
It is always dissapointing when this happens. I hate getting hyped up for a movie just to be dissapointed. Whenever I find my favorite is when I am bored, at blockbuster, just telling myself...just watch it and see. It seems the more and more I see movies in the theatre, the more and more I am dissapointed.
